A good first step

You have options, and you don't have to decide right now

What happened was not your fault. You can go to any emergency department and ask for the SANE program — specially trained nurses who provide medical care and support. Having an exam doesn't commit you to reporting to police. You get to decide every step.

If you're going to the hospital

None of these are required. The hospital will help you regardless.

  • Don't shower or change clothes if possible (preserves evidence)
  • Bring a change of comfortable clothes for after
  • Health card (not required for care)
  • Phone and charger
  • A trusted person to be with you (if you want someone there)
  • You can eat, drink, and use the bathroom — that's okay
