If You Just Lost Your Job

Apply for Employment Insurance (EI) as soon as possible — there is a one-week waiting period. Apply online at canada.ca or call 1-800-206-7218. You will need your SIN and Record of Employment from your employer.

While waiting for EI, if you cannot cover basic needs, call Community Services at 1-877-424-1177 for emergency assistance.

NS Works — Free Employment Services

For People With Disabilities

Starting a Business

CEED — Free self-employment training including business plan development, mentoring, and access to micro-loans. Call 902-421-2332.

Finish Your Education

Adult Learning / GED Programs — Free programs to finish your high school diploma or get your GED. Go at your own pace, no cost. Visit novascotia.ca/adulted. NS Student Assistance — Provincial student loans and grants with loan forgiveness for graduates who stay in Nova Scotia. Call 1-800-565-8420.
