If you have a disability, there are federal and provincial programs to provide financial support, services, and accommodations.
Financial Benefits
CPP Disability Benefit — Monthly payment (up to ~$1,606/month) for people who contributed to CPP but can no longer work due to severe and prolonged disability. Must be under 65. Apply through Service Canada (1-800-277-9914). Canada Disability Benefit — New federal benefit providing up to $200/month for low-income working-age adults with disabilities. Requires a Disability Tax Credit certificate. Payments started July 2025.Provincial Programs

- How do I apply for CPP Disability in Nova Scotia?
- Apply through Service Canada at 1-800-277-9914. You need your SIN and a medical report from your doctor (Form ISP-2519). You must have contributed to CPP and have a severe and prolonged disability that prevents you from working.
- What is the Canada Disability Benefit?
- A new federal benefit providing up to $200/month for low-income working-age adults (18-64) with disabilities. You need a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate (Form T2201) and must file your tax return.
